“When I was a child, the backyard barbecue was a ritual where families and friends gathered and the smell of smoke permeated the air of the local neighborhood. As the barbecue chefs surrounded the smoker, they talked about everything, the world, the state, the city, the neighborhood, but most importantly in those moments, they shared the secrets of the mix, the rub, the sauce, the wood, and the temperature,the essence of barbecue.

Herman T. Jones, my grandfather, was nurtured in and by this environment and he never lost his love of the art and the quest for the very best in ingredients and combinations. As a young boy, I stood in awe watching and listening as he carefully chose the best wood and the choicest cuts of meat, the blends of sausage, and the fresh poultry. I can still savor the aroma of spices that he mixed together to make the perfect Sauce. Everything was so meticulously prepared for a culinary event that was to capture my heart and inspire me to becoming a chef.”

In 2004, I took my culinary education to the public and opened Herman T’s Smokehouse BBQ Restaurant. It was here that I felt the most at home. I knew that my Grandfather was always close by in spirit, watching my every move. As the restaurant became popular with our fall off the bone meats, it was the sauce that everyone was talking about. Located in Florida, we had many customers that were only down for the winter. The request for sauce became huge and soon enough we were shipping everywhere in the US as well as Canada.

In 2008, I realized that there must be a better way to serve my loyal sauce customers and give them a much needed break on shipping cost. That’s when I went to work and created the one and only Herman T’s BBQ sauce Mix. This amazing powder can create the exact Herman T’s sauce in 15 minutes, in the comfort of your own home, RV or Ski Lodge. It can also be used as a pre-rub for all of your meats where the natural juices will create a fresh tasty sauce in your pan.
